Baked Brie en Croute with Carmelized Onions, Sauteed Apples and Carmelized Walnuts

Creamy, baked brie en croute with carmelized onions and sauteed apples baked right in! A hit with my cooking classes and friends alike! 45 min 8 servings Ingredients 1/4 cup butter 1 yellow onion, sliced 2 Granny Smith apples – 1 peeled, cored and sliced, the other just sliced 1 8 ounce wedge Brie cheese 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed according to pkg directions 1 egg, beaten Candied walnuts 1/4 c. brown sugar and ½ c. walnut halves Directions 1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. 2. Melt 1/4 cup butter in a skillet over medium heat. 3. Cook and stir onion until nearly caramelized. 4. Add 1 diced apple in butter until tender and browned. Set aside. 5. Arrange brie on top of one sheet of thawed puff pastry. 6. Top the cheese with the apple and onion mixture. 7. Place another sheet of puffed pastry on top and trim to fit. 8. Pinch together to hold both sides in place. 9. Garnish with remaining pastry dough and brush with egg. 10.Bake for 20 – 25 minutes or until golden brown. While brie bakes: 11. In a small skillet, combine sugar and walnuts over medium high heat. 12. Stir constantly until sugar melts into a light brown liquid. 13. Coat the walnuts evenly with caramel. 14. Remove from heat and transfer walnuts to non-stick foil with a slotted spoon. 15. Cool while brie bakes. 16. Sprinkle candied walnuts over baked brie and garnish with remaining sliced apple optional. 17. Serve immediately and enjoy!
